Man on the Roof by Bo Widerberg is the first of the films about the police detective Beck. It is based on the novel The Abominable Man by Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö. A patient is brutally murdered at a hospital in Stockholm. The detectives Beck and Rönn are tasked with solving the case. It turns out to be more complicated than they first thought since the victim is an officer with a bad reputation and many enemies. During the investigation, Beck discovers that there is a great tragedy behind the murder, and the tracks lead to a path that puts him and his colleagues in the line of fire. At the same time somewhere in Stockholm, a well-armed man climbs on top of a roof...
