City State is an Icelandic crime thriller where four people’s lives are intertwined in a Reykjavik whose innocence has been lost in a swamp of crime. Sergej is a Serbian mechanic who feel at home in Iceland and looks forward to the birth of his first child. But he happens to be in the midst of a shady drug deal of which the circumstances lead to Sergei’s wife getting a miscarriage. Filled with grief and an urge to avenge the people responsible, he cuts deeper into the criminal world until there is no return. In SvD, Jan Söderqvist rates the film 5 out of 6. He characterizes it as a “less loudmouthed and testosterone filled Easy Money”, which is “well-structured and strikingly effective in its narrative”.
