The virgin spring

Bergman's classic is based on a legend from the XIII century. With her golden hair and blue eyes, young Karin charms most in their vicinity. She is loved by everyone. One morning Karin rides out to the church with candles to honor the Holy Virgin. The legend says that only a virgin who bear candles. On the way she meets three shepherds. Karin offers to share her lunch, but they are not content only with the food and she is attacked, violated and killed. The shepherds then continue to the farm where Karin's parents live to seek shelter for the night. They invite them to the table unaware of Karin's cruel fate. The Virgin Spring, won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film in 1961.
