Persona

15 yrs 85 minutes 1966 8.1

On the surface, Elisabeth Vogler seems to have everything she wishes; she is a successful actress, happily married and mother to a son. But after a performance in the play Electra, she suddenly stopped talking. Otherwise completely healthy, she has chosen to step into silence. She doesn’t answer when asked questions or talked to, the silence is her mask. Together with a nurse, sister Alma, she settles in an isolated cabin on an island. The two women gradually come closer to each other in different situations, and there is a confident relationship between them, so confident that their identities begin to slide toward and into each other. Persona was very well received by Swedish critics and won two Guldbagge awards, one for Best Film and one for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
