The musician couple Jan and Eva Rosenberg have retired from their home country where there is a civil war and have moved to an island. On the island, they live on the countryside and run a farmhouse. Rumors about forces having landed on the island begins to spread and therefore preparations are being made for resistance in the city. The couple has done everything they can to avoid the war, but soon it will start to approach. Liv Ullman was awarded a Guldbagge for her portrayal of Eva Rosenberg.
