The Final Lesson
Madeleine (Marthe Villalonga) is 92 years old and feels that she has lived a good life. Now it's time to set a date for when she's going to leave this world. When she tells her children Diane and Pierre, she hopes they will get used to the idea. But for her children, it comes as a shock and they do not want to accept their mother's decision. Up to the end, Madeleine keeps her dignity, humor and passion for life, and this she wants to pass on to her children. Especially she wants to give her daughter Diane a final lesson about life. Göteborgsposten's Elin Dahlman writes that the movie "is at its best when dealing with Mady's confrontations with age and life. The things she can still do she has carefully collected on a list. But essentials such as "drive a car", "go to the bathroom", and so on, are struck out one by one. It is touching - and sometimes quite fun, thanks to Villalonga's presence and nuanced acting."
