It was not an easy task to choose only 17 films when there are so many good ones to choose from. I especially like art film because it has its own niche.
My two absolute favorite directors are Xavier Dolan and Aki Kaurismäki. Dolan who matches amazingly beautiful scenes with appropriate music while the films often touch on important LGBTQ+ issues. My favorite is Laurence anyways but on Viddla you can see Mommy and Matthias & Maxime.
Kaurismäki can say a lot with just silence. I love all his films and at Viddla you can see his latest The Other Side of Hope..
One film that always has a place in my heart is Tomboy by Céline Sciamma (Portrait of a Lady on Fire) which is about a trans boy and the film itself was revolutionary when it came out.
La femme de mon frère by Monia Chokri (who participated in Dolan's Heartbeat) is about an over-educated woman in her 30s who loses contact with her brother after he is finding a girlfriend.
Happy as Lazzaro by Alice Rohrwacher I had to see twice. It tells the story of a remote and isolated village where people live under feudalism in the middle of 70s Italy.
These and some of my other favorites that you can stream on Viddla can be found in the list below
