Mademoiselle Paradis
Director Barbara Albert tells the amazing story of the young blind pianist Maria Theresia Paradis. Her wealthy parents, the father working at court, have taught her to play the piano and dance in order to avoid the social humiliation that her disability might bring on her family. Through the unconventional treatment preformed by doctor Franz Mesmer, Maria Theresia learns to see again, and everyone assumes that her life should be perfect now. But when the treatment with an invisible medicine gives Maria Theresia access to the world with her own eyes, she loses her skill behind the piano. Mikael Timm writes in his review at Kulturnytt in P1: "Yes, it is a little pearl of a film. Discreet and therefore so wonderful to explore.”
