This thrilling drama tells the story about the 16th century Queen Kristina of Sweden. Finnish director Mika Kaurismäki lets us follow Kristina from inheriting the throne at the age of 6 until she abdicates ten years later. Kristina (Malin Buska) fights against the conservative views of the court, from defending her sexuality to her ideas to create a more modern and peaceful Sweden. Mikael Nyqvist plays the role of Axel Oxenstierna, Kristina's guardian. Bernt Eklund at Expressen writes that "The men are pale beside Malin Buska".
