Les innocentes
After the end of the Second World War, a French doctor (Lou de Laâge) from the Red Cross is in Poland assisting the survivors when she is persuaded to visit a monastery. There she discovers that several of the nuns are pregnant after having been raped by Russian soldiers and are in need of her help. The story puts ideologie and life choices against each other, the nuns' belief in Catholicism against the doctor's belief in communism, but along the way, strong friendships are built in an unsentimental but sympathetic story about women's lives. Sydsvenskans Annika Gustafsson writes: "Agnus dei touches partly the same Polish history that Pawel Pawlikowskis so brilliantly portrayed in Ida, that is, the need for an authoritarian society to conceal certain events in order to beautify the official history".
