Medan vi lever
After 30 years in Sweden, Kandia, an African woman in her 50s, decides to move back to Gambia. Her son Ibbe is just about to break through as a hip-hop artist in Sweden, but decides to try to get his mother to come back to Sweden with him. It turns out, however, that meeting the country of her origin will not be as they thought. Medan vi lever tells a universal story of identity in motion, a story of denial, and accepting oneself and others as they are. It's a joyful but bitterly glimpse of living together in a confused world. Filmeye's Smilla Sahlqvist: "The whole film breathes an unusual light and aesthetic to a great extent, even in a metaphorical sense. It is optimistic and hopeful. The African, colorful soul takes over the reality of the gray existence. Medan vi lever is a touching and well-made film with outstanding music that feels important and attractive. "
