Welcome to Chechnya

11 yrs 102 minutes 2020 7.9

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Davis France (How to Survive a Plague, The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson) is back with a gripping depiction of a group of LGBTQ activists fighting for their lives and rights in today's Chechnya. Through their network, they help people escape oppression, violence, and murder. For those who are targeted, there are no other options than to try to leave the country. There is no help to be had from the authorities who encourage the persecution and sanctions the violence. Through advanced visual effects, participants' faces have been replaced to protect their identities without having to mask them in more traditional ways. The film was met with great acclaim at film festivals around the world and won awards at both Berlin and Sundance.

The film is not playable outside of Sweden
