Ewan McGregor’s debut as a director is with the film adaptation of Philip Roth's Pulitzer-rewarded novel American Pastoral. Seymour "Swede" Levov (Ewan McGregor) had a successful sports career in high school, he is married to a former beauty queen and has inherited his father's business. His seemingly perfect life is torn to pieces when his daughter Merry (Dakota Fanning) revolts and joins a group of political activists. She participates in a bombing planed by the activists and then disappears. While everyone condemns Merry, Seymour refuses to lose hope and give up on his daughter.
