Claude and Marie Verneuil, a traditional Catholic upper class couple, have four daughters. Their oldest daughter has married a muslim, their second oldest with a jewish man and the second youngest is married to a chinese. They see themselves as open-minded, but have high hopes that at least the youngest daughter will marry someone who is a catholic. When the daughter introduces her future husband, they are met with a kind, artistic and intelligent Catholic man, who is black.
