“For cinematic accomplishments that have inspired, delighted, enriched and entertained worldwide audiences and influenced filmmakers throughout the world.”

That was how the Oscar jury motivated the Honorary Award in 1990 when it was dedicated to Akira Kurosawa. He is still considered by many to be Japan's best movie director ever and one of the world's most brilliant filmmakers.

His film Seven Samurai is voted 20th place on the IMDB list of the world's 250 best movies, and it is often among top films of the greatest directors' lists of their favorite films. This week we release four of our favorites from Akira Kurosawa.
