In a deserted ruin on a remote hilltop somewhere in South America, a rebel group of eight youths called Monos camp out. They guard their dairy cow and an American woman they hold hostage. Every now and then a threatening commander, called the Messenger, comes and teaches combat techniques and hands out orders. But when a rescue operation drives the rebels into the jungle, a nightmarish struggle for life and death begins. "Director Alejando Landes, who only made one film prior to this one, is masterful at creating moods," writes Dagens Nyheter's Helena Lindblad. The film was nominated for best film at the Berlin Film Festival and was Colombia's pick for the Oscars 2020.
