After an accident, a teenage girl and her little brother are stranded alone in the middle of the Australian wilderness during an outing. They have almost no belongings with them, just the clothes on their backs and some toys that the boy has in his bag. When they meet a young aborigine who is out on his ritual walkabout, a stay alone out in the wilderness for several months, they follow along with him. This leads to completely new experiences for all three of them, but when the two young teenagers become interested in each other, the cultural differences start to show. Walkabout was nominated for a Palme d’Or at the Cannes Festival in 1971.
