Today is a drama by Senegalese director Alain Gomis. Satché emigrated but has returned to his old hometown, Senegal's capital Dakar. Not as a winner but as one who has only one day left to live, why we will never know. But he intends to make the most out of it. We get to see the world through Satché's eyes, his family, wife, children, friends, girlfriend, relatives. Everyone carries testimony of who he is, who he has been. The streets and creeks of the city carry traces and memories of his presence. "It’s not more than that, in all its simplicity and its absurdism. Or magical realism, a classification that suits this little story. Universal rather than unique, while local customs and smells make a distinct impression" writes Jan Lumholdt in SvD. Satché is played by American hip hop artist Saul Williams. The film was nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 2012.
