The Master

15 yrs 132 minutes 2012 7.1

The former marine Freddie Quell is tormented by his experiences in World War II and, in the early 1950’s roams around in life surrounded by drug abuse and temporary jobs. During a drunken night, Freddie jumps onto a boat and meets the charismatic leader Lanchester Dodd, also known as The Master. Dodd is the respected but manipulative leader of an increasingly popular religious community. Invited to the inner circle, Freddie does everything he can to follow the path laid out by the master. The Master was, like many of Paul Thomas Anderson’s movies, nominated for several Oscars and Viktor Jerner at Moviezine rates it 5 out of 5 and concludes: “Everything is of absolute highest quality and nothing is left to chance. You smile, you’re enchanted, you cry.”
