The Notebook

Allowed 123 minutes 2004 7.8

This is a classic love story based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks that switches between the 1940's and the present. In the frame story, set in present day, Allie Hamilton lives in a retirement home. She is senile, but Noah Calhoun is convinced that he can make her remember her life by reading out a diary that tells the story of a young couple in love in the American South. Two young people meet during a summer of war and burning love arises. She is a upper-class girl from town on vacation. He works on the sawmill, is poor and considered inappropriate. "The strength lies in the acting. That oldies like Garner and, above all, Rowlands know how to deliever is one thing, but McAdams and ... Gosling is also greatly impressive. There is a sensitivity and low-keyness in his actions that are all outstanding", says Mats Bråstedt in Expressen.
