Brute Force

15 yrs 98 minutes 1947 7.6

When this classic prison film first premiered in 1947, the violent scenes stirred up very strong emotions in the United States. In Sweden, it was edited down and in Denmark it was entirely forbidden. Burt Lancaster plays his second lead role in this drama about the fight between the cunning prisoner Joe Collins and the sadistic prison guard Munsey, which leads to a violent prison riot inspired by the true events at Alcatraz in 1946. At Filmfenix Erik Nyström describes the film as “a ruthless Film Noir in the hopelessness within the prison walls”.
