Stations of the Cross
The German drama Kreuzweg won the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival 2014. The movie is about the 14-year-old Maria and her life, ruled by a fundamentalist catholic society. She lives her daily life in the modern society, but her heart belongs to Jesus. She wants to follow him, become a saint and go to heaven. During her confirmation, portrayed as Jesus way to the cross, Maria is faced with big contemplations regarding life, death and faith. Despite the premises of the movie there is no lack of humorous elements. “Brüggemans standards for the child actor van Acken is set almost incredibly high, but she has no problem living up to them as she dominates every scene, from start to finish. The movie and Maria’s fate really gets to you”, Mats Johnson writes in Göteborgsposten.
