Behind the candelabra
The movie Behind the candelabra is based on Scott Thorson's autobiographical novel about his secret relationship with the world-famous pianist Liberace. Liberace's extravagant style and spectacular performances made him a world-renowned artist with a faithful fancier throughout his 40-year career. Michael Douglas plays Liberace and Scott Thorson's role is made by Matt Damon. According to Jan-Olov Andersson in Aftonbladet, Douglas is "brilliant, giving us deep, warmth and folly exaggeration, without ever making a caricature of the role". He shares the 4 Plus rating and concludes: "The movie is a real kitsch party when it comes to scenography and clothes. It's sometimes fun, but Steven Soderbergh never forgets that there are two people we're gonna laugh toghether with, not at. entertaining!"
