In Safe Hands

7 yrs 110 minutes 2018 7.2

Already in the hospital, Theo's mom realizes that she won't be able to take care of her newborn son and puts him up for adopts. At the same time, the involuntarily childless Alice (Élodie Bouchez), who has been in line for adopting a baby for eight years, dreams of getting a child. We follow Theo's path through the French welfare system: the social workers who try to find the perfect parents, the foster-father who does his best to make Theo connect with him while knowing that their relationship is highly temporary, and everyone else who works in order for Theo to end up with the right family. Miranda Sigander at TT writes: "In safe hands is a brilliant display of human bureaucracy working ... Maybe it paints a utopian image of the good community, but it is heart-warming.”
