Mao's last dancer
This drama is based on Li Cunxin's best-selling biography about a poor Chinese boy's development to a prominent ballet dancer. Li Cunxin grows up in the Chinese countryside under extremely poor conditions. In the early 70's, the eleven-year-old boy is elected by Madame Mao's cultural employee to start practicing ballet at a ballet school in Beijing. As part of China's cultural exchange with the United States, Li is given the opportunity to study ballet in Houston. In the United States, Li appreciates his freedom and he falls in love with an American woman.
