Sally (Jane Fonda) is left alone in Los Angeles when her husband Bob (Bruce Dern) is sent on a mission as a captain in the Vietnam War. In order to pass time she decides to become a volunteer at a veteran hospital. At the hospital she meets Luke (Jon Voight), a paralyzed sergeant who sits in a wheelchair. Sally looks past his bitter and angry facade and they fall in love. But one day Bob returns from the war. The homecoming was nominated for eight Oscars and won three: best manuscript and best female and male actor in a leading role. Expressen said that it is a "big movie with dedicated glow and a magnificent Jane Fonda." It's a love story, it has a place in film history." Aftonbladet wrote: “ Jon Voight is brilliant."
