The Kid

Allowed 68 minutes 1921 8.3

One throws stones through windows. The other happens to come over to offer the services of a professional glazier. It is a system that works. So does everything else in this wonderful Charlie Chaplin classic from 1921. For the first time as a filmmaker, Chaplin made his feature film debut with this story. It is about the Tramp and the delightful urchin, rescued as a child and raised in the school of hard knocks by the Tramp himself, who becomes his inseparable helper. New York Times contemporary reviewer wrote that "Charlie Chaplin plays himself at his best" but also praised Jack Coogan, who plays the boy of the title, as "a source of immense enjoyment".
