An overactive brain, a prisoner with no rights in Guantanamo Bay and a bank robber turned high school teacher, are some of the themes in this week’s newly published films at Viddla.se.
Benedict Cumberbatch (Imitation Game, Sherlock Holmes) and Claire Foy (The Crown) play the leads in this British drama about the eccentric Louis Wain and his wife. Wain was an artist and his playful approach to cats helped change the way his audience looked at cats forever, in The Electrical Life of Louis Wain.
In The Mauritanian we meet Mohamedou Ould Slahi who is being held as a prisoner and tortured in Guantanamo Bay for ten years, without charges or trial. When defence attorney Nancy Hollander (Jodie Foster) takes on the case, the fight for justice begins.
In a dark world they are like shining stars, those who are willing to help strangers out of the goodness of their hearts. In The Kindness of Strangers a young woman and her son needs help to escape a violent husband and father.
Palindromes tells the story of 12-year-old Aviva who wants to be a mother, whatever the cost. Her parents manage to prevent this, only to have her run away to encounter the singing Free Church Sunshine Family.
Bobby Sanders definitely plays in the minor leagues now. It’s about ice hockey and love in Odd Man Rush. The film is based on Bill Keenan’s comical bestselling book.
When jailbird Zeki Müller is released from his 13-months-sentence in jail, he meets up with his girlfriend to follow their plan of digging up their loot from an earlier bank robbery. The only problem is that someone has built a school at the location. Zeki needs to take a job at the school for access, in Fack Ju Göhte.
Enjoy the films!
