The Ciambra

14-year-old Pio is in a hurry to become an adult. He lives in a small Romani area in Italian Calabria and eager to learn all about how to live by the unwritten laws of the streets from his older brother Cosimo. But when Cosimo suddenly disappears, Pio must show that he is ready to stand on his own two feet in the harsh reality of one of Calabria's poorest cities. Director Jonas Carpignano (Mediterranea) has become known as a skilled interpreter of human destiny on the fringes of society. For The ciambra, he was awarded a prize at the Cannes Film Festival 2017.
