Don't worry, he won't get far on foot
Alcoholic slacker John Callahan (the threefold Oscar-nominated Joaquin Phoenix) is bound to a wheelchair after a car crash following a night of drinking with his best friend Dexter (Jack Black) but does not see this as a reason to stop drinking. However, during an AA-meeting, he realizes that a sober life may, after all, have its advantages. He also discovers that he has a talent for drawing satirical pictures and that the local newspaper wants to publish his often controversial and rough strips. Suddenly, the former addict is a popular and controversial social critic. Gus Van Sants film is based on the satiric artist John Callahan's memoirs and is recognized for it’s outstanding acting.
