Lily (Maggie Smith), Eileen (Kathy Bates) and Dolly (Agnes O'Casey) can seldom take time off their everyday lives and demanding husbands in a town in 1960s Ireland. They suddenly get the chance to travel to Lourdes, where all visitors are hoping for personal miracles. The three friends are no exceptions, but if the magic does not happen despite bathing in holy bathwater, at least they get to be on vacation! Simultaneously Chrissie (Laura Linney) shows up in town for her mother's funeral and decides to accompany them to Lourdes. She hasn't seen Lily and Eileen since she left town as a teenager, and her broken relationship to the women and her mother surfaces. Time does not heal all wounds, but time of miracles may not be over?
