Brassed off
Critically acclaimed comedy with lots of warmth and humor, set in a small community in the north of Yorkshire in the early 90’s. When the coal mine is threatened with closure, the brass band who has always been the pride of the city start to lose their rhythm. The only reason they keep playing is because of the well-liked orchestra leader Danny (Pete Postlethwaite). When beautiful Gloria (Tara Fitzgerald) moves back to town and joins the orchestra the motivation is restored, and they start preparing for the big brass band championship. Gloria reconnects with her childhood fling Andy (Ewan McGregor), who is also playing with the orchestra. They manage to make it to the finals in the competition but have run out of money. Then help arrives in an unexpected way. Brassed off was awarded Best film in 1996 by Göteborgs-posten.
