Tina (Eva Melander) is the most skilled customs officer at the ferry terminal. If she senses the smell of fear from one of the passengers, you know for sure that a smuggler has been found. She has never been wrong until Vore (Eero Milonoff) comes ashore. He looks a lot like Tina, with his rough-cut face and his robust body. He puts her sense of smell completely out of balance. Vore says that Tina should not be ashamed of who she is, that she is, in fact, better than the others who throughout her life made her feel wrong and different. The film was nominated for an Oscar and won six Guldbaggar, among them: Best Film, Best Direction and Best actress. The reviews have been exuberant. "Border successfully weaves gender, ethnicity and minority repression into the same colorful fantasy costume. Smart, sensuous and frighteningly worth watching,” writes Helena Lindblad at DN and gives the film the highest score.
