Hypatia lived in Alexandria in year 300 and is the first known female mathematician. She was also a philosopher and astronomer. Hypatia (Rachel Weisz) is a teacher and is primarily obsessed with explaining the planet's whimsical movements according to the Ptolemy's astronomy. At the same time, the city is shaken by great controversies between the followers of the emerging Christianity, Judaism and the ancient gods of the city. When the Christians take over the power, Hypatia's position drastically decreases. The film won 7 Goy Awards 2010 and was nominated for another 6 prizes.
