Empire of Passion
Empire of Passion is Oshima's sequel to Realm of the Senses and is a film about the love between Toyoji and the 20 year older Seki. The intense romance and Toyoji's jealousy make the both lovers kill Seki’s husband together. When they get rid of the body, they think they've gotten away, but soon suspicions arise. The film was nominated for the Golden Palm in Cannes in 1978 and Nagisa Oshima won the award for Best directing at the same festival. Bernt Eklund writes in Expressen that Empire of Passion is "cruel and beautiful, and it is obscene in its consistency, well balanced as a classic faith drama."
