A private detective focusing on very unusual cases, classical films from two British film producers and French lovers are some of the themes in this week’s newly published Viddla-films.

They made very successful films in the 1940s, Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. Martin Scorsese has produces and narrates this documentary about the four-times Oscar-winning filmmakers. See Made in England: The Films of Powell and Pressburger.

Director Greta Gerwig (Barbie) is responsible for script, directing and one of leads in this 2008 film. Rumour has it that she and co-producer and co-star Joe Swanberg quarreled a lot in the process of making the film. Nights and Weekends is a film about a couple who starts a long-distance relationship, working hard to make it last.

Private detective Nandor Fodor has his hands full investigating a case where a family claim they have a talking mongoose living in their wall (a small carnivorous mammal). Actors in the film include Simon Pegg and Minnie Driver.

Two complete strangers literally crash into each other on the train. This results in a loud verbal altercation to the entertainment of their fellow travelers. Afterwards, in a moment of passion they meet in the photo booth on the station. They decide to spend more time together exploring the nightlife, in Strangers by Night.

In the moving film Music Within we meet Richard Pimentel, a splendid public speaker with a difficult past. After serving in Vietnam, he returns with his hearing permanently impaired. The film is based on a true story.

Erika Falck and Patrik Hedström face a difficult case. A 7-year-old girl is found downed by a local fisherman, near an island off the coast of Fjällbacka. But did she drown? See The Stonecutter, based on Camilla Läckberg’s crime fiction book.
