In 1759, in Mauritia, 16-year-old Mati refuses to live as a slave at a french-owned plantation. She flees into the jungle to find freedom with other escaped slaves. When the plantation-owner sends the brutal hunter Madame La Victoire after Mati, her father Massamba decides to run to try and save her. While father and daughter flee through the dangerous jungle, they fight the coloniial system that has supressed them.
