Filmed in long takes, Evolution follows three generations where memories from the Second World War are contrasted with present-day Berlin. In the first part of the film, we see two men who make an unpleasant discovery while cleaning a bunker. The second and third parts focus on whether the traumas are hereditary, as we get insight into the complicated relationship of a mother and daughter as well as a teenager's first love. Director Kornél Mundruczó first staged Evolution as a theater and then shot the film in less than two weeks.
