Witchfinder general
During the mid-17th century, England is in the midst of a civil war when a number of men without scruples travel around the villages and exploit the villagers' superstition and concern for the future by offering their services as witch hunters. One of them is Matthew Hopkins (Vincent Price), known for his ability to get "witches" to confess their crimes, a service he is well rewarded for by those who think they need it. Witchfinder general is loosely based on the historical Matthew Hopkins who was an English witch hunter in the 1640s. He is estimated to have contributed to 300 alleged witches being executed in just a couple of years during the bloodiest witch hunt in history.
