Landfill Harmonic

7 yrs 84 minutes 2015 8.1

When everyone else saw a huge pile of trash, the people in this documentary saw the opportunity to create beautiful music. Music teacher Favio Chavez teaches at a school in the slums of Paraguay. He soon realizes that there are more students than instruments in the area plagued by poverty, and together with a garbage picker named Cola, he investigates the possibility to build classical instruments of material found in the landfill. This is the start of the heartwarming story of the Landfill Harmonic, an orchestra that now travels the world playing on their recycled instruments. The documentary was praised at a large number of film festivals around the world in 2015.
