The Tree of Life
The Tree of Life won the Palm d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival 2011 and is a classic growth story about Jack, one of three brothers in a family in the Midwest. The mother is a sensitive woman who stands for love and empathy. The father, on the other hand, tries to teach his sons to put themselves in the first place. Hynek Pallas rates the film 5 out of 6 in Svenska Dagbladet with the motivation: "It is the most beautiful and ambitious film the director has made." In Göteborgsposten, the film receives the highest rating from Maria Domellöf-Wik. She writes: "There is a deep spiritual dimension in Malick's work. The film grows into a defense of Mother Earth, being one with us, a prayer for mercy, empathy, and love for our neighbor. It is incredibly beautiful, tumultuous and completely unique.”
