Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud in their natural habitats, prejudice and the struggle to improve the conditions for the overweight, and explorers on the dark web are some of the themes in this week’s newly published films at Viddla.

The ambiance is eerie in the classic Australian Picnic at Hanging Rock from 1975. While on a long-awaited excursion away from their boarding school some of the young girls go missing. But how did it happen, and where are they now?

Carl Jung has a new patient, a young Russian woman, whom he treats for hysteria. Consulting with his colleague Sigmund Freud on the case, he succeeds in treating her, only to find himself infatuated by her. Soon their relationship turns into something more than doctor and patient, in A Dangerous Method. 

How do we treat the overweight and how do we talk about them? This documentary centers on Aybrey Gordon’s journey from anonymous blogger to activist. Her goal is to radically change how society view fat people. Your Fat Friend is an eye-opening, close-up film of a woman determined to be accepted.

Occupied City is a Steve McQueen-documentary featuring a journey throughout the city of Amsterdam in modern times, paired with historical accounts from the German occupation of the city during World War 2. It is a monumental work, narrated by the skilful Melanie Hyams.
