Thursdaypremiere w.1-2

Real or fakes miracles, controversial experiments and Amy Winehouse are some of the ingredients in this week’s newly published filmatic treats at Viddla.

The sisters in The Miracle in Gullspång cannot believe it when they meet the woman selling them an apartment. She looks exactly like their sister who committed suicide some 30 years earlier.

She joined the exclusive and tragic Club 27, the fabulous singer Amy Winehouse. A turbulent life of fame and music ended all too soon from alcohol poisoning. Marisa Abela gives an excellent performance as the singer in Back to Black.

Cecilia, a devout young woman, is warmly welcomed into an Italian convent in beautiful surroundings. She soon realizes that her new home houses dark secrets. Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, White Lotus) plays the nun Cecilia in the intense horror film Immaculate.

The Sugar Experiment is based on a true story about an institution where dental experiments were being performed on the patients. 660 people with disabilities participated in the experiment that eventually proved a correlation between sugar and Caries.

Musician, poet, painter and activist Patti Smith is the focus in the documentary Patti Smith: Dream of Life. But also the woman, mother and grieving widow. The film is a product of her 12-year-long collaboration with director Steven Siebring.

In Mother and Child we meet three women, mothers and daughters, whose lives are woven together in a story about adoption and voluntary and involuntary childlessness.

Welcome to a new filmatic year!
