Theme: Robert Redford’s 80th birthday

His breakthrough came in 1969 with the role as the Sundance Kid

It's hard to believe, but actor Robert Redford turned 80 last year. His breakthrough came in 1969 with the role of the Sundance Kid, in the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. During the 70's and 80's, Robert Redford starred in Oscar-winning blockbusters such as The Sting, The Great Gatsby, All the President's men and Out of Africa. The role as Johnny Hooker in The Sting earned him an Oscar nomination in 1973. Later, he received another Oscar nomination in 1975, for the thriller Three Days of the Condor. In 1998, Robert Redford starred in The Horse Whisperer, a film he also produced and directed. You can also see him in one of his most recent films, Truth

Using revenues from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Redford started several initiatives to support the development of independant filming in the United States of America, through the Sundance Institute and the Sundance Cinemas. He has also created the annual festival Sundance, where many independent filmmakers have the chance to present their work.
