Theme: Hobbit day

”In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit”

So begins the book about Bilbo's adventures. Hobbit Day is celebrated on September 22 in memory of Bilbo, his nephew Frodo and all other friendly hobbits. J.R.R. Tolkien's book about Bilbo's adventures was published in 1937 whereas Lord of the Rings was first published in the mid 50s. The first edition in Swedish about Bilbo was published in 1947. The first part of The Lord of the Rings was published in Swedish in the late 1950's.

During the 2000s, the hobbit's adventures have became known worldwide thanks to Peter Jackson's amazing movies. The films were shot in New Zealand, on a farm where the hobbit's village was built and can still be visited. The village has been preserved and converted into a tourist attraction known as Hobbiton. Here, visitors can take a look into the small houses or even have a beer at the pub Green Dragon.
