Blindness

15 yrs 116 minutes 2008 6.5

A mysterious and highly contagious disease that causes people to become blind breaks out and the government is panicked. Quickly they gather all blind people in a quarantine to prevent the spreading of the dangerous virus. A woman that seems to be immune pretends to be blind in order to join her husband who has suffered. In the quarantine a battle for life and death against armed guards and aggressive prisoners awaits. The question is whether they will be able to leave the hospital alive and if there is actually a cure for the virus? Helsingborgs Dagblad's Gunnar Bergdahl finds that "The pictures of the apocalypse [...] are some of the most nightmarish I have seen in a movie" and that "There is a cinematic daring to this story." Blindness is based on Nobel Prize winner José Saramago's novel of the same name.
